Raipur, //Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel attended the state-level Weavers’ conference organized by the Chhattisgarh State Handloom Development and Marketing Cooperative Federation at Sardar Balbir Singh Juneja Stadium in Raipur on Friday. During the event, he announced that the Chhattisgarh State Handloom Development and Marketing Cooperative Federation will provide school uniforms in the upcoming academic session of 2024-25 for the benefit of the Weaver community. The conference witnessed a significant turnout of members from the weaver community, including men and women, from across the state.
Chief Minister Mr. Baghel stated that the weaver community is a hardworking and entrepreneurial community. This community has been advancing the art of spinning threads and weaving fabrics for generations. The ancestors have passed down the valuable skills to the next generation to preserve the valuable arts. There is a growing disillusionment with machine-made products, and people are returning to handcrafted, pure, and reliable products. The demand for natural products is increasing in place of synthetic. This presents a great opportunity for traditional entrepreneurs, and they should take advantage of it.
Chief Minister Mr. Baghel mentioned that over the past five years, the state government has taken various essential steps to support the weaver community, ranging from their training to production and ensuring market availability for their products. Chhattisgarh Government has consistently worked towards realizing Mahatma Gandhi’s vision. In these five years, state government has built a robust framework for the development of the weaving sector, the benefits of which will continue for many years to come. This will generate significant employment opportunities on a large scale in the weaving industry. He further said, “I appeal to the weaver community to embrace a new perspective in line with the changing times and further advance their traditional profession. Our government stands by your side at every step.”
Chief Minister Mr. Baghel stated that Chhattisgarh still leads the country in Tussar silk production. The demand for the locally-made textiles extends to foreign markets. The quality of Chhattisgarh’s silk textiles has no match elsewhere. Chhattisgarh’s educated and well-informed youth understand the market dynamics better. The entrepreneurial youth of the new generation are innovating in textile prints and designs, reaping the benefits. He urged the weaver community to advance their traditional trade with a fresh perspective, assuring that the state government will provide full support.
Chief Minister Mr. Baghel stated that the Dantewada Dennex factory is a successful example that, with a modern outlook, the youth entrepreneurs can open new doors of possibilities in the field of textile manufacturing. The Suraji Gaon Yojana also aims to promote traditional businesses and local production. The state government has started various schemes to transform Gauthans into RIPA to encourage entrepreneurs such as weavers, artisans, and craftsmen. By establishing 300 industrial parks in urban and rural areas, state government is fostering traditional entrepreneurship.
Chief Minister Mr. Baghel mentioned that state government has established C-marts in various locations of the local markets. In addition to conserving Chhattisgarh’s forests, state government is also working to promote silk production through sericulture. The state government has accorded the status of farming to sericulture, which will boost silk production in Chhattisgarh. This will ensure smooth availability of silk to the weaver community and also lead to an increase in silk textile production.
